Medication Assisted Treatment
Aldie is a unique treatment provider in that we value multiple pathways to recovery from addiction. In keeping with this approach several forms of medication assisted treatment are available for individuals to use in conjunction with psychosocial therapy to treat opioid use disorders.
Using information gathered from the level of care assessment Aldie staff will make a clinical recommendation to assist individuals in engaging in the most appropriate treatment plan. The following medication assisted treatment programs are available at Aldie:
- Methadone Maintenance Treatment - With over 50 years of empirical evidence to support its effectiveness, methadone maintenance with widely considered to be the Gold Standard in the treatment of opioid use disorder. Methadone works on parts of the brain to blocking the euphoric effects caused by opioids and reduce cravings. The medication is administered daily at Aldie and take home privileges can be earned overtime in accordance with state regulations.
- Buprenorphine Maintenance Treatment – Buprenorphine works on the brain and works similar to methadone by blocking the opioid high and reducing cravings. The medication comes in the form of a pill or film strip.
- Naltrexone – Administered under the brand name Vivitrol this medication is normally administered in the form of a monthly shot. The medication works by binding to opioid receptors in the brain and blocking the effects of opioids. The medication is non-narcotic and is not addictive.
At Aldie medication assisted treatment is combined with individual and group psycho-therapy.
